A Chapel celebratory tea party was held at the end of April to mark Kath White's 95th birthday. Happy Birthday Kath!
Three members of the Beer Congregational Church completed a 7.2 mile walk along the South West Coastal Footpath to mark the 500th anniversary of the publication of the first translation into English of the Bible by William Tyndale. The walk was part of an initiative by The Congregational Federation.  We had a joint Mothering Sunday Service with St Michael's Church in Beer at our chapel. After the service, refreshments were enjoyed in the Hall. Posies of flowers were distributed to all the ladies present along with an extra surprise home-made chick! The Congregational Church annual Pancake Party was held on Shrove Tuesday and a good time was had by all - pancakes, drinks, games, quiz and a Beetle Drive. A big thank you to all who gave so generously to our Christmas services - especially Christmas Eve. We raised £715 and we have recieved thanks from St Petrocks and the Salvation Army. The services were enjoyed by all who came, where we learnt about the origins of the famous christmas tune 'The 12 Days of Christmas' and sung Christmas Carols. The church was deocrated wonderfully and was packed! On Sunday 29th, the church celebrated our lovely harvest festival for 2024 with a sunday service and a delicious lunch. Here are some photos from the beautiful service which raised over £400 for Christian Aid to provide relief from the famine in Sudan. A big thank you to everyone who helped us by bringing something for the harvest table. Large congregations attended our Christmas services on Christmas Eve led by Jane Bolton and on Christmas Day led by Roger Aplin. The church looked lovely. £400 was donated from church collections to St Petrock’s and the Salvation Army. Church calendars were given out free to church members and were much appreciated.
Rev. Nigel Freathy Recent services include the Ascension Service on the Sunday after Ascension Day, taken by Nigel, and the Whit Sunday Service, Pentecost, when we celebrated the birth of the Christian Church with birthday cakes and a celebration of Communion.
In July, Sam is going to lead a Songs of Praise service when people will be choosing their favourite hymns and explaining the reasons for their choice. By then we are hoping that the whole congregation will be able to join in with the singing. The choir will sing an anthem and there will be a flute solo provided by Annette, accompanied by Sylvia. Through this last Lockdown the chapel at Beer has continued to hold services according to government advice. We have held 15 minute long services consisting of prayers, readings, meditation, short talks and hymns and anthems played on a C.D. player. Nigel and Annette have led them on alternate weeks. The congregations have been very good in number and very appreciative. Gradually the services have increased in length and things are now almost back to normal! We had a lovely Mothering Sunday service giving out bunches of flowers and chocolates. On Palm Sunday we gave out palm crosses and our Maundy Thursday service, which Nigel led, it was very moving and marked our Holy Week. We were able to use the organ at that service with Sylvia playing and with our mini-choir singing. Easter Day was wonderful. The church looked magnificent, festooned with spring flowers. The Easter cross on which the names of our church members were nailed was carried in by Tina, and Clara carried in our Resurrection Banner. Bernard played the organ and again our mini-choir were able to sing the Easter hymns. At the end of the service the congregation received Easter eggs,hot cross buns and sunflower seeds in little pots. We are looking forward to the time when all of the congregation can sing the hymns. |
